The effects of drugs and their combinations on the rearing response in two strains of rats

Summary

The experiment reported here examined the effects of central and autonomic stimulant and depressant drugs administered singly and in pairs on a form of exploratory behavior namely, rearing, in two strains of rats of both sexes. It was found that the central stimulant, amphetamine, increased rearing frequency and that the effect of this drug was diminished in combination with sodium amytal or methylpentynol. No sex or strain differences could be detected.
