Blockade of apomorphine pecking with phenothiazines

Summary

Twenty phenothiazine compounds with various substitutions at position 2 and 10 of the nucleus were tested for blockade of apomorphine induced pecking in pigeons.

The requirements for maximal activity were -COCH2CH3 substitution at position 2 and a substituted piperazinopropyl group at position 10 of the phenothiazine nucleus.

The anti-pecking activity of phenothiazine parallels the blockade of conditioned avoidance response by them. There is lesser correlation between antipecking and antiemetic activities of phenothiazines.
