Abstract
Thirty rats were trained to avoid shock in an automated apparatus and were then given extinction trials with the shocker disconnected. Ss were divided into three groups prior to extinction and given an intra-peritoneal injection of either one of two doses of hashish resin or the vehicle used to dissolve it. Both doses of hashish resin were found to significantly increase the number of trials required to reach the extinction criterion as compared to the placebo group. The higher of the two doses also induced a significant increase in spontaneous recovery responding one day later. The results were compared to a similar finding obtained with alcohol (Baum, 1969, 1970).
