Abstract
Autoclaved cells of gram-positive bacteria or mixed rumen organisms promote the growth of rumen strains of Methanobacterium ruminantium, but cells of E. coli were only stimulatory to growth after treatment with lysozyme plus EDTA or with EDTA alone.
N-acetylglucosamine is identified as one of the growth factors for rumen strains of Mb. ruminantium.
