Abstract
Two mitotic metaphase plates are given from the shoot apices of a eudiploid and a trisomic sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.), the chromosomes lying in distinct and separate pairs. The plate from the trisomic plant shows the trisomic chromosome number. The pairs, therefore, do not consist of daughter chromosomes resulting from postendomitotic mitoses in cells previously having become haploid, but rather of homologues. The findings are considered as striking examples of a rare, but non-random phenomenon.
