Résumé
Après avoir rappelé les avantages que l'on peut obtenir, en toxicologie industrielle, par l'emploi d'isotopes radioactifs, l'auteur rapporte quelques unes des principales études faites dans ce domaine, dans le but de préciser le métabolisme de composés toxiques et la pathogénèse des altérations, les limites de toxicité etc.
L'auteur expose ensuite les résultats de ses recherches personnelles, relatives à la distribution biologique et à excrétion du plomb, recherches faites sur le rat en injectant de l'acétate de plomb (Pb 210) en doses de 100 microgrammes de métal/animal/voice intraveineuse. Les résultats obtenus ont montré que:

dans le sang environ le 96% du Pb est fixé par les éléments cellulaires et rien que le 4% est présent dans le plasma.

le Pb, du compartiment plasmatique, où il a été injecté se distribue rapidement dans les différents tissus et les plus hautes concentrations par gramme sont relevées dans les tissus: rénal, hépatique, osseux.

la concentration du Pb, dans le sang et dans les différents tissus examinés, se réduit, dans la période initiale (t 1h–t 24h) d'une manière rapide; successivement (t 24h–t 336h) d'une manière lente. Par contre, dans le tissu osseux la concentration augmente lentement pendant les premières heures (t 1h–t 24h) pour décroître ensuite de façon très lente.

les courbes qui expriment les variations de concentration du Pb dans les différents tissus indiquent que l'éloignement du métal suit[ l'allure d'une réaction de 10 ordre, où l'on peut reconnaître deux ou trois constantes exponentielles. Ce caractère de l'évolution biologique du Pb semble être indépendant de la dose injectée à l'animal: on l'observe en effet même avec des doses inférieures, égales à 0,7 microgrammes de métal/animal.

l'excrétion du Pb se produit par les selles et par l'urine. Pendant 14 jours d'observation le 51,6% de la dose injectée est excrétée: 35,74% par les selles, 15,90% par l'urine. L'excrétion fécale et urinaire commence très tôt, elle présente un maximum entre 12 et 48 heures et décroît ensuite asyntotiquement.
