A simple measure to reduce and hold a depressed fracture of the calcaneum

Summary

We describe a method of treatment for one type of calcaneal fracture, the so called ‘tongue type” with secondary compression of the proximal fragment into the distal part of the calcaneum.

The fracture is reduced by a pin passed transversely through both proximal and distal fragments and once reduction has been achieved the position is maintained by the application of the Day external fixator.

Our experience with this fracture is reported.

Zusammenfassung

Wir beschreiben eine Behandlungsmethode für eine besondere Variante der Calcaneusfraktur, den sogenannten „Zungen-Typ”, die mit einer sekundären Einstauchung des proximalen Fragmentes in den distalen Anteil des Calcaneus einhergeht.

Die Fragmente werden mit Hilfe von transversal eingesetzten perkutanen Nägeln reponiert und die erreichte Stellung durch Anlegen eines äußeren Fixationsgestänges erhalten.

Die Erfahrungen mit dieser Fraktur werden mitgeteilt.
