Metatarsal osteotomy for relief of hallux valgus

Summary

Surgical correction of hallux valgus deformity is often indicated. We have analyzed the results of subcapital osteotomy of the metatarsal in 112 feet. The time of observation has been from 5–12 years. The results were found to be excellent in 73.2%, good in 20.5% and poor in 6.3%. By the radiological examination it was shown that the success of corrective osteotomy depends on adequate displacement of the metatarsal head.

Zusammenfassung

Die operative Korrektur des Hallux valgus is häufig indiziert. Bei 112 Füßen wurde die subcapitale Osteotomie des I. Metatarsale durchgeführt und die Ergebnisse wurden analysiert. Die postoperative Beobachtungszeit betrug 5–12 Jahre.

In 73,2% der Fälle waren die Ergebnisse sehr gut, in 20,5% gut in 6,3% schlecht. Die röntgenologischen Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, daß der Erfolg der korrigierenden Osteotomie von einer ausreichenden Verschiebung des Metatarsalköpfchens abhängt.
