Summary

An International Workshop on “Education and Safe Handling in Pesticide Application” was organised in Buenos Aires and in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina from March 12–18, 1981 by the Scientific Committee on Pesticides of the International Association on Occupational Health.

Papers and discussions dealt with the principles and practice of education in safe handling of pesticides. Many papers demonstrated that the vast amounts of pesticides used in developing countries stand in sharp contrast to the poor level of understanding of the potential health hazards involved.

Eight recommendations were formulated providing suggestions for improvement of educational programmes and safe handling.
