Some comments on the hydrostatic system of spiders (Chelicerata, Araneae)

Abstract

An anatomical study of five spider types has shown that the musculi laterales of the prosoma, together with the subcuticular muscle sheet of the opisthosoma, may be jointly responsible for generating the internal hydrostatic pressures which control the leg extension mechanism.
