The programs for assessment of manually retrieved data from Chemical Abstracts were written by D.M. Sterzinger for a CBM 8032 system comprising a Hübner & Worm 24 MB Harddisk. The bulk part of the program for the analysis of scientific meetings in Japan was written by M. Peter, also for the CBM 8032 system and Hübner & Worm 24 MB Harddisk. Complementary parts of this program as well as a new version for IBM AT03 were written by Th. Assheuer. The manual extraction of Chemical Abstracts was carried out by K. Siekmann, appropriation of key words by U. Fischer. The author expresses his gratitude for further help to G. Peters, B. Lehzen, U. Griesbach, S. Schörry, M. Sugawara, T. Kagawa and M. Miyai. This work was supported by a grant from the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (BMFT), D-5300 Bonn. Generous support from Henkel KGaA is gratefully acknowledged. Special thanks are due to U. Wattenberg, GID Tokyo, whose guidance was invaluable.
