Abstract

Radiographic discontinuity of the acetabulum is a frequently encountered entity which has been described by various authors. We have been unable to find an explanation of the nature of this discontinuity in the literature. By correlating dried skeletal specimens with their radiographic appearances, we found the anatomic basis for this phenomenon was an accessory fossa in the apex of the acetabulum.
