Bacteriastrum solitarium Mangin, a stage in the life history of the centric diatom Bacteriastrum hyalinum

Abstract

The initial cell of Bacteriastrum hyalinum Lauder, which is the result of lateral auxospore formation, is identical with the solitary “species” B. solitarium Mangin. This evidence was obtained in laboratory cultures on B. hyalinum.
