Chiasma frequency and the disjunction of interchange associations in rye

Summary

From comparisons within plants and between plants it is established that:

  1. 1.

Variation in the disjunction frequencies of interchange associations in rye is dependent upon the chiasma frequency of the interchange associations. The higher the chiasma frequency of the interchange associations the lower is the probability of zig-zag disjunctional arrangement.

  2. 2.

As would be expected from the above results genotypes with higher chiasma frequencies tend to show a lower frequency of disjunction.

  3. 3.

There is, as well, a component of variation in disjunction that is partly independent of chiasma frequency. That this component of variation is also controlled by the genotype is established from observations of differences in disjunction frequencies within p.m.c. of identical chiasma frequencies in different genotypes.
