Intoxikation und Suicidversuch

Summary

The classification of suicidal attempts into only 2 categories, the serious and non-serious attempts is inadequate. Particularly as the increase of poisoning as a method of suicide makes it very difficult to discover how seriously an attempt was intereded.

In this paper, drug poisoning was described as a specific type of suicidal attempt as it aims not at death but rather at deep sleep, a short breathing space, a “Time limited death”. Thus escaping at least temporarily from a critical life situation. It was shown that the danger of suicide is also inherent in a poisoning attempt and this must be taken into consideration in the psychiatric after care.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird darauf hingewiesen, daß die grobe Einteilung der Suicidversuche in ernstgemeinte und demonstrative nicht mehr hinreichen kann. Dies um so mehr, als mit dem Vordringen der Intoxikationen als Suicidmittel das Ausmaß der Selbsttötungsabsicht immer weniger klar erkennbar wird. Als eine Sonderform von Suicidversuchen werden Arzneimittelintoxikationen beschrieben, durch die nicht eigentlich der Tod angestrebt wurde, sondern vielmehr ein Tiefschlaf, eine kurze Atempause, ein „Tod auf Zeit“, um so einer kritischen Lebenssituation wenigstens vorübergehend zu entrinnen. Es wird dargelegt, daß auch solchen Intoxikationen eine Suicidgefährdung innewohnt, die bei der Nachbehandlung berücksichtigt werden muß.
