Summary
Fifty single oospore progeny from crosses between opposite mating types of Pythium sylvaticum that contained polymorphisms in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) for HindIII restriction sites were analyzed for patterns of mitochondrial inheritance. All progeny retained the morphological form of the oogonial parental type; the antheridial form or recombinant forms of parental mtDNA were not detected. With the techniques used, other forms of mtDNA would have been detected it they had comprised 8% or more of the mitochondrial population.
