Summary

Review of the literature reveals no previous clinical, roentgenographic, and pathological correlation of a brain as severely affected by cytomegalic inclusion disease as the present case. The case demonstrates: 1. the infrequently described occurrence of transplacental infection early in gestation; 2. striking roentgen evidence of CNS devastation and calcification; 3. correlation of the temporal occurrence of the mother's infection (manifested by “cold sores” or “fever blisters”) with the stage of arrest of fetal brain development.
