Some observations on the fine structure of nerve cell bodies and their satellite cells in the ciliary ganglion of the chick

Summary

The fine structures of the ciliary ganglion cell and its satellite cell of the chick were studied by means of electron microscope.

The general appearance of the ganglion cell soma is similar to those of other ganglion cells. In this paper, particular attentions were paid to the number- and area estimations of the nuclear pores, peculiar intracytoplasmic filamentous structures and “coated” vesicles in the Golgi area. In addition, centrioles with cross-striated rootlets were observed in the perikaryon of the nerve cell. Brief discussions were made on these intracytoplasmic organelles.
