Summary
-
1.
The pedicel of Chrysopa contains two Scolopophorous organs: The Johnston Organ, which is composed of amphinematic scolopidia; their terminal strands end in the articular membrane between the pedicel and the flagellum, and the “Central Organ”, which consists of mononematic scolopidia; they reach the lower end of the first joint of the flagellum.
-
2.
To each scolopidium of the Johnston Organ belong one enveloping cell, one scolopale cell, three sense cells and, very probably, one accessory cell. From each sense cell a dendrite, with a cilium-like process, expands to the internal region of the scolopidium. One of the three transformed cilia is much longer than the other two, has a larger diameter and contains many microtubules; on the other hand the electron dense structure in the dilatation of the cilium and the solid root are missing.
-
3.
The scolopidia of the “Central Organ” contain one cap cell (=enveloping cell of the amphinematic scolopidia), one scolopale cell and — with the exception of one sensillum, that contains only one — two sense cells. The cilia penetrate the scolopoid cap and end in a small bubble. Furthermore these scolopidia are similar to those of Locusta described by Gray (1960).
-
4.
The hitherto available results strongly support the assumption that close morphological relations exist between hair sensilla and campaniform sensilla on the one side and amphi- and mononematic scolopidia on the other.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
