The chromosomes of Salmo salar

Abstract

A new chromosome number, 2n=58, is reported for Salmo solar, the Atlantic salmon. The complement comprises 8 pairs of metacentrics, 21 pairs of acrocentrics. The question of variation in chromosome numbers for different salmon stocks is very briefly discussed.
