Summary
In the uterus of the rat the destruction of collagen during the first 6 days post partum was examined. Comparatively, the last days of pregnancy were also taken into consideration. On the 2nd and 3rd day after parturition a lot of intracellular collagen inclusions appear in histiocytes. Only on the 2nd day post partum numerous small spherical inclusions are seen close to the phagocytised collagen fibrils. The number of collagen inclusions is gradually decreasing on the 4th and 5th day. On the 6th day they have almost disappeared, whereas the number of lysosomes and lipid-droplets is increasing, evidently. The mechanisms of collagen destruction are discussed.
