Summary

Experimental and clinical studies of a group of veins of the posterior fossa, including the lateral mesencephalic, the brachial veins and their remifications in angiographically normal and pathological cases are presented. On this basis a comparison was made of the normal course of these veins and the changes observed in cases of tumours permitting the evaluation of the transverse diameter of the mesencephalon, the site of the brachia pontis and signs are described, which may be expected to help in the differentiation of the tumours of the brain, first of all in the posterior fossa and of the mesencephalon.
