Ultrasonic cross-sectional visualization of hydrocephalus in infants

Summary

Ten young children have been examined both by ultrasonic echoencephalography and X-ray air ventriculography. It has been shown that in all cases the ultrasonic echograms corresponded in detail to the information given in the X-ray ventriculograms and, as a consequence, the ultrasonic method must find a place in routine clinical practice. Being non-invasive and safer, ultrasonic echography may be performed when the clinical findings are not sufficiently serious to justify X-ray air studies. The examination may also be repeated as required.

Résumé

L'examen de 10 enfants par ventriculographie ultrasonique et pneumographie montre une bonne correlation entre les deux méthodes. Les avantages de la ventriculographie ultrasonique résident dans inocuité qui permet un grand nombre d'examens de contrôle.

Zusammenfassung

Bericht über Untersuchungen an 10 Kindern mit der Echo-Encephalographie und der Luft-Ventrikulographie. Es zeigte sich in allen Fällen, daß die Ultraschall-Untersuchung im einzelnen mit den Informationen des Ventrikulogramms übereinstimmte. Dies bedeutet, daß die Echoencephalographie einen Platz in der Routine-Diagnostik haben muß.
