Homologous and non-homologous chromosome associations by interchromosomal chromatin connectives in Ornithogalum virens

Abstract

Based on interchromosomal chromatin connectives, a statistical analysis of homologous and non-homologous chromosome associations was made on mitotic metaphase chromosomes of Ornithogalum virens. The great majority of connectives involve constitutive heterochromatin, and connections between homologous chromosomes are twice as common as would be expected by chance. It is suggested that constitutive heterochromatin with similar DNA is involved in both homologous and non-homologous chromosome associations.
