Haematopinus suis L. hat in beiden Geschlechtern 2n = 10 Chromosomen. Vier Paare sind ungefähr gleichlang, das fünfte ist etwas länger; ein heteromorphes Paar ist nicht vorhanden.

Die Spermatogenese weicht vom Normalschema stark ab. Am Ende der Vermehrungsphase der primären, diploiden Spermatogonien erfolgt eine Chromosomenpaarung, deren Einzelprozesse nicht zu verfolgen sind. Die 5 Bivalente lassen den Aufbau aus 4 parallel liegenden Chromatiden erkennen. Die beiden aus der 1. Teilung nach der Paarung hervorgehenden haploiden Tochterzellen machen 5 synchrone mitotische Vermehrungsteilungen durch und bilden Cysten mit 64 Zellen. Die anschließende 6. Teilung ist inäqual; ein Tochterkern wird mit einer kleinen Plasmaknospe abgeschnürt und degeneriert; der andere ergibt mit der Hauptmasse des Plasmas ein normales Spermium, so daß schließlich in einer Cyste ein Bündel von 64 Spermien und 64 pyknotische Körper enthalten sind.

Das Teilungsverhalten der Chromosomen in den primären und sekundären Spermatogonien, sowie das Fehlen primärer Einschnürungen, ließen vermuten, daß H. suis holokinetische Chromosomen besitzt. Das mitotisch normale Verhalten röntgeninduzierter Fragmente liefert den experimentellen Beweis für das Vorliegen dieses Chromosomentypus.
