Summary
Examination of 437 hares for Pneumocystis carinii showed that this parasite was present in seventy-five hares of various biotopes. P. carinii was mainly found to be present in debilitated adult hares and young three- to eight-month-old hares.
P. carinii was particularly common in young hares during the period from September to December. Of the young animals shot by sportsmen, locally more than one-third showed infections.
