Wide area access to central corporate spectroscopic databases

Summary

The reasons for the choice of a corporate spectroscopic datasystem are presented. In some companies research is spread world-wide. This leads to the need to design the system for wide area network operations. The system in ICI is an example of such a system, and some of the design considerations for the ICI system are presented.
