Summary
The development of the thalamic afferent projections to layer I of the visual cortex of the albino rat was studied using the retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase. The results show that the projections to layer I which arise in the “nonspecific” thalamic nuclei (lateral posterior nucleus, posterior complex and ventromedial nucleus) develop earlier than the projection from the “specific” nucleus (dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus).
