Summary
The title polymer was synthesized via thermal and AIBN initiation. The 300 MHz 1H-NMR and 75.5 MHz 13C-NMR spectra were recorded and analyzed in terms of polymer stereochemistry. The 1H-NMR was very similar to the 1H-NMR spectra of poly(2- and 3-vinyl thiophene) and could be interpreted in a like manner. The analysis of the 1H-NMR led to the conclusion that poly(2-vinyl-5-methyl furan) is an atactic polymer when synthesized under free radical conditions. Analysis of the 13C-NMR spectrum supported this conclusion.
