Summary
Although the world's first continuously functioning psychological laboratory was founded in Germany by Wilhelm Wundt, this act did not lead to the establishment of experimental psychology as an independent discipline in the German university system. A brief description is offered of certain relevant features of that system, and of the ways in which Wundt and other experimenting psychologists sought to orient themselves and their work within it.
