Summary
The influence of deoxycorticosterone (DOC) and triamcinolone-acetonide (TAA) on the phosphomonoesterases of the rat kidney was histochemically and quantitatively investigated in 72 males, which were castrated and partially adrenalectomized in addition.
-
1.
After a single dose of TAA even in the high dose of 8 mg/100 g bw. no change of the alkaline phosphatase was observed.
-
2.
TAA given in a dose of 10 μg/100 g bw. for eight days causes a strong decrease of the alkaline phosphatase in the straight proximal tubules and a week decrease in the convoluted portion. Adrenalectomized rats show a more sensible reaction than only castrated rats.
-
3.
The acid phosphatase simultaneously increases in the castrated animals.
-
4.
Contrarily to TAA, DOC causes an increase of the activity of alkaline phosphatase in the convoluted tubules as well as in the straight ones. It amounts 1,5 MKH in the mean. The enzyme distribution in the kidney does not alter.
-
5.
The pattern of action of TAA and DOC on the alkaline phosphatase clearly differs from that of other steroid hormons, such as estradiol or testosterone.
