Summary
Discussion of a series of new bone formations in non-otosclerotic and otosclerotic temporal bones, grouped according to location and pathology. The otosclerotic metaplastic process did not exercise any influence on the formation of lamellary bone. Osteoid is not generally considered to occur in the developmental history of otosclerotis; but on rare occasions, as in the present ones, it may represent one of the components of the otosclerotic tissue, albeit one with reduced destructive, penetrating potency.
