Summary
-
1.
The body proportions of a young Tarsius bancanus are compared with those of a Galago demidovii and Microcebus murinus of about the same age. 2 young Tarsiers, one of them 11/2 days old, were X-rayed.
-
2.
The state of ossification was found to be very similar to that of neonate man; but this is mainly due to specialization of locomotion in this animal.
-
3.
According to Portmann's criteria Tarsius bancanus is a very typical “nidifuguous” primate; but according to its state of perinatal ossification it is a “nidiculous” animal.
-
4.
Applying Portmann's division into nidifuguous and nidiculous animals to Tarsius with the inclusion of the state of perinatal ossification seems problematic, since this division expresses such specializations. The model seems to be applicable to primates only in a limited way.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
