Summary
The LDH isoenzymes in mammalian erythrocytes show a transspecific variability, caused by: 1. Differences in the rates of synthesis of the A-und B-chains (different activities of A-and B-cistrons), 2. Diferences in charge of the A-and B-chains (amino acid substitutions). Insectivora and Prosimiae possess a similar zymogram, in which LDH 5 is predominant, the homotetramer of the A-chain. This is supposed to be phylogenetically more ancient: the zymogram of an ancestral group, which is conserved in those branches.
