Abstract
The effect of four water injection arrangements on the performance of a high energy scrubber (with throat dimensions of 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm rectangular and 10 cm long) was studied. For each method of water injection, the gas cleaning performance as a function of pressure drop was measured. The data were classified into three classes of particles: large, medium and small corresponding to sizes of 1.0 to 3.0 μm, 0.6 to 1.5 µn and less than 0.6 µn diameter, respectively. The results indicate that for the same operating conditions, the water injection arrangement has a significant effect on the particle collection efficiency for all classes of particles considered The major effect of the water injection arrangement on particle collection efficiency was observed at low pressure drop operations where higher resistance exists for long range transfer mechanism. A maximum difference of about 30% in particle collection efficiency was found at a pressure drop of 25 cm of water head.
