Summary

The Y chromosomes of 30 mentally defective patients with long Y chromosomes (Y≧F) and of 26 patients with Y chromosomes of typical size were studied.

  1. 1.

The nonfluorescent segment of Y increases proportionally with the length of the entire chromosome.

  2. 2.

In 27 out of 30 cases of long Y two fluorescent segments were recognized; in all other cases only one segment was observed.

  3. 3.

No case of structural polymorphism of Y was found.
