Abstract

The Atlantic Geoscience Centre at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography has had a program of Ocean Bottom Seismometers (BOBS) development since 1975. A complete description of the instrument as it existed in 1978 can be found in Heffler and Barrett (1979). Since that time, a continuous evolution has occured, but the most significant change has been in the release mechanism. This paper will describe the new release mechanism after a short description of the old system. Other recent changes to the BOBS will also be mentioned.
