Abstract

A comprehensive approach to risk assessment was developed by coupling an environmental fate model to the available health effects data. This approach was used to determine the risk due to an emission of 100 Mg L−1 of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2.4.6-TCP) to a water body similar to Hamilton Harbour. The results indicated that a reduction in emissions to the harbour from 100 to 27.6 fig L−1 would be required if a risk level of 1 in 106 is closen.
