Summary

Blood samples of people from three Mediterranean countries were investigated for different enzyme polymorphisms. The following gene frequencies were found:

Glutamic-Pyruvic Transaminase (GPT):

$$\begin{gathered} {\text{Italians (}}n{\text{ = 205), GPT}}^{\text{1}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.55;}} \hfill \\ {\text{Spaniards (}}n{\text{ = 184), GPT}}^{\text{1}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.51;}} \hfill \\ {\text{Turks (}}n{\text{ = 213), GPT}}^{\text{1}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.54}}{\text{.}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

Adenosine deaminase (ADA):

$$\begin{gathered} {\text{Turks (}}n{\text{ = 198), ADA}}^{\text{2}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.083;}} \hfill \\ {\text{Spaniards (}}n{\text{ = 187), ADA}}^{\text{2}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.075}}{\text{.}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

Adenylate Kinase (AK):

$${\text{Spaniards (}}n{\text{ = 187), AK}}^{\text{2}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.043}}{\text{.}}$$

Phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD):

$$\begin{gathered} {\text{Italians (}}n{\text{ = 207), PGD}}^{\text{b}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.031;}} \hfill \\ {\text{Spaniards (}}n{\text{ = 187), PGD}}^{\text{b}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.024;}} \hfill \\ {\text{Turks (}}n{\text{ = 198), PGD}}^{\text{b}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.033}}{\text{.}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

The gene frequencies deviate slightly from those recorded in other middle European populations already investigated.

$$\begin{gathered} Italiener(n = 205),GPT^1 = 0.55; \hfill \\ Spanier(n = 184),GPT^1 = 0.51; \hfill \\ T\ddot urken(n = 213),GPT^1 = 0.54. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

Adenosin-Deaminase (ADA):

$$\begin{gathered} T\ddot urken(n = 198),ADA^2 = 0.083; \hfill \\ Spanier(n = 187),ADA^2 = 0.075. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$

Adenylatkinase (AK):

$${\text{Spanier (}}n{\text{ = 187), AK}}^{\text{2}} {\text{ = 0}}{\text{.043}}{\text{.}}$$

6-Phosphogluconat-Dehydrogenase (6-PGD):

$$\begin{gathered} Italiener(n = 207),PGD^b = 0.031; \hfill \\ Spanier(n = 187),PGD^b = 0.024; \hfill \\ T\ddot urken(n = 198),PGD^b = 0.033. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$
