Calcium binding to phospholipids from experimental tumors

  • Published:

Summary

The binding of Ca2+ to phospholipids from various experimental tumors has been studied. The experimental results indicate that the phosphatidylserine is the main Ca2+ binding substance.

In most of the isolated phospholipids a phospholipid-calcium-phosphate complex seems to be present. The presence of orthophosphate considerably enhances the Ca2+ — binding to the tumor phospholipids. The increase of Ca2+ concentration also augments this binding. The possible implications of this behavior for the cell membrane permeability are discussed.
