Experimental gliomas cultured in vitro. Morphological and histochemical study

Experimentelle Gliome in der Gewebekultur Morphologische und histochemische Untersuchungen

Summary

The tumours in vitro preserved the essential morphological features of experimental gliomas in situ. Protoplasmic astrocytomas and multiform glioblastomas showed higher grade of anaplasia and dysplasia than the parent neoplastic tissue. All types of glioma exhibited high activity of lactate and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Marked differences in the enzymatic activity of the tumour cells were frequently observed. Activity of succinate dehydrogenase was low in all types of gliomas. Acid phosphatase activity differed markedly in all cells and higher activity was found in the cells containing also PAS-positive granules.
