Studies on the mechanism of chromosome banding with trypsin

Summary

Human chromosomes were treated with either trypsin or specifically inhibited trypsin and stained with Leishman stain. Bands were only obtained after trypsin treatment. This may indicate that binding-specific proteolytic activity was essential for the production of bands.
