The prospects for renewable energy sources

Abstract

As the reserves of depletable fuels are consumed, their prices will increase, thus making renewable energy sources more cost competitive. SRI has evaluated the potential uses for and costs of renewable energy sources and compared them with other energy sources currently being utilized. These economic estimates serve as a basis for discussing the possible contribution that solar energy sources can make to the U.S. energy system. Some of the technical, environmental, and institutional problems associated with each of these solar energy forms are reviewed.
