The oikoplastic epithelium of the appendicularia Oikopleura albicans (Leuckart) (Tunicata)

Abstract

The topography of the oikoplastic epithelium which covers the anterior and middle trunk regions of O. albicans, and the problems related to the constant number of the constituent cells and their increase in size is described in detail. A study of the nuclei shows that polyploidy, which is the rule for all cells, increases in relation to the age of each cell and varies according to the region under consideration.
