A simple method for R banding of human chromosomes, showing a pH-dependent connection between R and G bands

Summary

Incubation in an unbuffered solution of 1 M NaH2PO4 at 88°C (pH 4.0–4.5) causes R banding to appear on human chromosomes after subsequent staining in Giemsa dissolved in distilled water. G banding, results when the pH of the incubation medium is adjusted towards neutral.
