Subtotal reconstruction of the larynx and the cervical trachea

Summary

Subtotal reconstruction of the larynx and cervical trachea after radionecrosis of these structures is described. A very good functional result is achieved after five operations in three years; the 43-year-old patient being now able to breathe normally, to swallow without any problems and to phonate adequately. The reconstruction was performed by means of five flaps, buccal mucosa grafts and cartilage grafts.
