Summary

1. The mean duration of the developmental stages of Gibbium psylloides Czemp. reared on a mixture of semolina and brewer's yeast at 32.5°C and 60% R.H. was as follows: incubation period, 8 days; larval stage, 40 days; pupa, 18 days; total, 66 days. The maturing adult beetle remains inside its cocoon for a pre-emergence period of about seven days.

2. Lariophagus distinguendus Först. has been reared as an ectoparasite on Gibbium psylloides Czemp. for the first time. The latter is the second Ptinid accepted as host by Lariophagus.

3. As in case of Stegobium paniceum L., Ptinus tectus Boield. and Rhizopertha dominica Fab. the females of Lariophagus preferred the prepupae enclosed in their cocoons to the mature larvae or pupae of G. psylloides for depositing their eggs.

4. It seems possible that to rear L. distinguendus Först. on variable host species has any effect on the mean duration of the life-history of the parasite.
