Summary
-
1.
In spite of the inhibition of glucose transport across the intestinal wall by DNP and by anaerobiosis, lactic acid accumulates on the serosal side.
-
2.
2. Under normal conditions and in the presence of DNP, the lactic acid concentration of the extracellular fluid produced on the serosal side is 100 times higher than that of the luminal fluid.
-
3.
Both iodoacetic acid and NaF reduce the DNP-activated glycolysis but only iodoacetic acid inhibits the accumulation of lactic acid on the serosal side.
-
4.
Glucose transport is independent of lactic acid accumulation. Quantitatively considered, about 10 times more glucose is transported than is lactic acid accumulated.
