Zusammenfassung
-
1.
Summary
-
1.
In dogs the lethal dose of thiopental determined in a special way is increased about 2.5 times by bemegride when given alternately with the anesthetic.
-
2.
Artificial respiration increased the lethal dose of thiopental to about the same extent as bemegride.
-
3.
Detailed analysis showed death to be due to respiratory paralysis under bemegride administration, but to vascular failure during artificial respiration.
-
4.
Simultaneous treatment with both bemegride and artificial respiration increased the lethal dose of thiopental to approximately 6 times. Bemegride was as effective as infusion of norepinephrine.
-
5.
The basic processes responsible for death under bemegride plus artificial respiration or norepinephrine plus artificial respiration are discussed. Most likely in both cases death occurs by primary failure of the heart.
-
6.
The experimental results show the usefulness of an adequate analeptic agent in barbiturate poisoning. They further demonstrate the superiority of combined physiological and analeptic treatment for such poisoning.
