Summary

An area of high incidence of renal calculi in Northern England and Scotland has been found to coincide with an area of soft water supply. However, in Wales and South West England the equation of soft water with high incidence of urolithiasis is lacking, and an enquiry into regional variations in diet reveals that a high intake of fruit and vegetables may protect against renal calculi.
